At workplaces, many additional conditions and influences must be considered when choosing adequate personal protection equipment, including masks to protect from SARS-CoV-2 infection.Therefore a good scientific knowledge on the efficiency and burden of protection against SARS-CoV-2 by wearing masks is useful.

No inflammatory effects after acute inhalation of barium sulfate particles

The study in the IPA exposure lab investigates whether the results on the inflammatory effects of particles that have been demonstrated in animal models can be confirmed in acute inhalation studies in humans.The results indicated that barium sulfate particles as a representative of granular biopersistent particles without specific toxicity does not induce inflammatory effects in humans after acute inhalation.
